Spend 3 days in Hue, travelers can learn as much about communist wars as reveling in the city’s ancient history or get up-close with nature.

The first day

The first morning in Hue can be taken slowly with a walk around Hue Citadel and the Imperial City in the north bank of the romantic Perfume River. Enter through the Ngo Mon Gate, once reserved exclusively for royalty, and climb to its highest level, where you can enjoy an expansive view of the complete citadel. From there, head to the Forbidden Purple City, at the center of the Imperial Citadel, for a look at the life of an ancient ruler. Structures were damaged during war, but visitors can walk the numerous paths through overgrown gardens and admire iconic architecture that still remains. Relax on the grass or enjoy a picnic in the shade, then walk to nearby Hue Monuments Conservation Center to see a collection of ornaments. Then, you can ride a bicycle or take the cyclo to Thien Mu Pagoda along Perfume River. For lunch, there are many local places to try out near Dong Ba market.

After a break for lunch, pass the Trang Tien Bridge to visit some of the beautiful tombs of Kings Nguyen in the south bank of Perfume River. Among these tombs are the four famous ones with the name and the arrangements of the tomb reflected each King's points of view, personality and tastes. This is majestic Gia Long Tomb, imposing Minh Mang Tomb, poetic Tu Duc Tomb and magnificent Khai Dinh Tomb. You can also visit the Incense and Conical hat making villages.

Beside the amazing destination, Hue is well-known for variety of delicious food. Coming to Hue and enjoy Com Hen, Bun Bo Hue, Banh Bot Loc, Com Am Phu and Che Troi Nuoc… Even they are very spicy, they are really wonderful to eat. Some tourists said that they could take a long trip to just enjoy the food there. On the night, you can go around the city and enjoy the tradition music, dance and some romantic activity there.

The second day

Start your second day with a cup of coffee at local café then take part in a tour to the Demilitarized Zone, about 100 kilometers outside of the city. The DMZ was established as a dividing line between North and South Vietnam. It plays a vital role in the country’s history. Experience the breathtaking green hillsides and thick bush as you hear stories about Agent Orange and American military invasion and modern-day post-war life. Travel alongside the Ben Hai River, and witness the most-bombed bridge in the nation, which still stands today. Finally, visit the Vinh Moc tunnel, a series of narrow underground passages where 60 families escaped the cross fires of war.

The last day

Wandering the Citadel and bearing witness to relics of war can be exhausting, so spend your last day in Hue unwinding with nature. One of the best ways to escape the hustle of Hue is with a day trip to the Thanh Tan Hot Springs located 13 kilometers north of the city, where natural minerals like calcium and sulfur are said to have healing effects on the weary traveler. Another choice is Thuan An Beach, about 15 kilometers from Hue. Spend your day lazing under the sun or strolling the beach, enjoy the sun set before returning to Hue.
