Halong Bay Junk Boats

Junk boats are traditional wooden sailing vessels that have been modernized for cruising in Halong Bay, which can be easily recognized by the large sails on the top of the ship and the vintage design. Often having lower capacity, they offer a more intimate and cultural cruising experience compared to large modern ships.

Today’s junk boats are fitted with comfortable cabins, dining areas, and safety equipment, while still keeping their iconic sails and authentic design. They must meet strict safety regulations set by the local authority, including life jackets, fire safety systems, and follow daily weather checks. The bay itself is calm and sheltered, so junk boats remain stable. In rough weather, cruises are postponed for passenger safety.
