Wonder of Luang Prabang 4 days

Our local guide welcomes you upon your arrival at the airport. Then you will take a private car from the airport to the hotel in Luang Prabang. Check in hotel to relax and enjoy the rest of the day for free.

Morning

After having breakfast in the hotel, our driver and guide might pick you up at around 08:30.

The first destination on this day trip is the Royal Palace Museum, which was created in 1904 for King Sisavang Vong and his family during the French colonial era. Since it is located on the Mekong Riverside, we take a leisurely sail upstream on the river to admire the spectacular view of the serene landscape.

Next, we would visit the enigmatic Pak Ou Caves, two linked caves packed with hundreds of gold lacquered Buddha sculptures of various shapes and sizes left by pilgrims. Then, let's have a pit break in the village of Ban Xanghai, where the regional rice wine is produced, along the journey.

When we return to the city, we'll stop by the historic Wat Sene and the adjoining majestic Wat Xiengthong, two outstanding examples of Lao temple architecture with sweeping two-tiered roofs and elaborate mosaics, including a lovely "tree of life" glass montage on the rear temple wall.

If there is enough time, you can travel outside of the city to the Thai Lue village of Ban Xangkhong, which is renowned for its handicrafts, or make your way to Ban Xienglek, a small village known for its traditional Saa paper production. Either travel to the adjacent village and play a game of petanque with the community team. You can either travel to the neighboring village and play petanque with the community team.

Afternoon

We will stop at Wat Prabath, the best location to see the day's final splendor, in the late afternoon to take in the sunset.

The journey comes to a finish with a stop at the well-known Night Market, where you can browse a stunning selection of handmade textiles produced nearby by the local residents, before back to the hotel.

NOTE: Visit the Traditional Art and Ethnology Center (closed on Monday) if you enjoy learning about diverse ethnic cultures.

Visit Pak Ou Caves

In the early morning when the sun comes up, be ready to participate in Laos' most revered custom: the daily almsgiving in Luang Prabang. It dates back to the 14th century, with more than 200 Buddhist monks leaving various temples but peacefully wandering on the streets to gather their daily meals from the local residents. 

NOTE: Travelers can observe this tradition while maintaining a safe distance, dressing appropriately, and taking in a more tranquil experience in quiet. You can also snap some shots without using your camera's flash while still being respectful.

After that, you can enjoy breakfast at the hotel to have the full energy for the 329-stair climbing up to Phousi Hill. This will give you a panoramic view of the city and the Mekong River.

Next, we will stop at the UXO Visitor Center, which houses the records of the Laotian secret war but is closed on Saturday and Sunday if time permits.

Then proceed straight to Kuang Si, the most impressive waterfall in the Luang Prabang region, which has three tiers and a 50-meter drop into stunning azure pools before flowing downstream. The pools are a favorite among both visitors and locals since they make excellent swimming spots.

(If you have more time, there will be an opportunity to stroll to the nearby village of Ban Thapene and discover the seldom-visited secret waterfalls.)

You are welcome to pay a quick visit to the Bear Rescue Center, which is home to a few dozen creatures that were rescued from poachers and traffickers.

We will stop briefly at the Ock Pop Tock Living Craft Center on the way back to Luang Prabang. This lovely, traditionally designed workshop, where weavers, spinners, and batik makers manufacture top-quality fabrics, offers free tours every half-hour. In Luang Prabang, this is also among the best places to see the sunset.

Late in the afternoon, you would be transferred back to your hotel.

Around 8:00-8:30, our English-speaking tour guide will pick you up from your hotel and then drive you to the Elephant Village Camp. You will get the basic information about the elephants when listening to the guide, then have the chance to get closer when feeding the elephants.

After that, you will visit the Elephant Village, and take a look at the elephant hospital, museum, gallery, etc., also enjoy being a Mahout, who works with, rides, and tends an elephant (1 individual per elephant).

The journey will continue with a trip on a traditional Lao long boat to the Tad Sae Waterfall, where you can unwind or go swimming in crystal-clear water. (Seasonal conditions will affect water levels and swimwear is advised.)

Let's have lunch at a nearby restaurant. Coffee, tea, and water are supplied with your buffet lunch (vegetarian alternatives are available).

Depart the camp at 13:00. Transfer back to your Luang Prabang hotel.
