FAQs
Definitely yes. The Mekong River is among the world's best enchanting river cruise destinations. Why is it worth it?
- Scenic riverscape: Cruising is the most fascinating way to get closer to the tranquil waters, floating villages, and lush mangroves.
- Relaxation & comfort: Mekong River ships offer well-appointed cabins, cozy lounges, and spacious decks where you can enjoy your comfort in mind and body.
- Off-the-beaten-path route: From 2 to 11 days, the cruise itinerary will let you admire all the hidden gems of the mighty Mekong, including local workshops, floating markets, fruit orchards, temples & pagodas, etc.
- Cultural immersion: Let's take a chance to engage in the traditional life on waterways, unique cultures from diverse countries, and genuine people.
The best month to take a Mekong River cruise is from November to April next year, an ideal time during the dry season. There are lower chances of rain and cooler temperatures. So that you can enjoy offboard activities and beautiful sightseeing.
The cruise starting points depend on the countries you want to discover. You can follow the list beyond to know where you will start your Mekong River journey.
- Vietnam: Can Tho, Ho Chi Minh City
- Cambodia: Phnom Penh, Siem Reap
- Laos: Luang Prabang, Huay Xai
Both low water (mid-Nov to end-Aug) and high water (end-Aug to mid-Nov) have similar onshore excursions but the sequence may differ.
The main distinction is that the water levels only influence the itinerary in Cambodia (between Siem Reap and Phnom Penh), while the Vietnam itinerary is unchanged.
In particular, Mekong River cruises can make a lake crossing in the high-water season and visit many attractions in Tonle Sap. Ships can also dock directly at the Siem Reap pier. During low water season, the dock will be located at Kampong Cham.
Note: The exact dates of the high and low seasons are determined by rainfall and water levels each year. Mekong cruise lines will adjust their schedules on short notice.
The dresscode for Mekong River cruise is lightweight and smart casual clothes. To be more specific, you should take notice of these followings:
- Choose summer and autumn outfits due to the tropical climate in Mekong
- Dress "more than casual," such as a collared shirt for men and a dressy top for women, on some special nights
- Wear comfortable shoes or sandals since you have to walk on uneven surfaces and cobblestones during offshore excursions
It depends on your travel goals and schedule. Each option offers a rich mix of culture, landscapes, and local life along the Mekong's iconic waterway.
- 2–3 days (from SG$275): Explore the charming Mekong Delta in southern Vietnam.
- 4–7 days (from SG$788): Cruise from Vietnam to Cambodia, ideal for nature lovers and culture seekers.
- 8–11 days (from SG$2,192): Discover the hidden beauty of Laos and Thailand on an extended river journey.
Cruise prices on the Mekong River can range from SGD 260 to SGD 6,100 per person, depending on the length and cruise type.
Here’s a general breakdown:
- 1–2 nights: From SGD 260 - SGD 1,180
- 3–6 nights: From SGD 890 - SGD 6,100
- 7–9 nights: From SGD 1,930 - SGD 6,130
- Over 9 nights: From SGD 3,500
Most cruise packages include accommodation, meals, and excursions, while visas, premium beverages, and some onboard services may cost extra.

The Mekong River has a dense system of channels and canals, thus creating an easy riverway for boats to easily navigate around and explore lush greeneries, pretty islands, local villages, and bustling floating markets.
Flowing through six countries, including China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam, the Mekong River cruise route is divided into two main regions before flowing into the East Sea.
- Upper Mekong: China and Myanmar
- Lower Mekong: Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam
Currently, BestPrice Travel is providing 25+ top recommended cruises ranging from 3 to 5 stars on the Mekong River. They travel mainly in the lower Mekong with the most prominent destinations being Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos.
The small boats dating back to the 2000s have lower capacity and wooden facilities featuring a laidback riverscape in the mighty Mekong. These cruises feature basic amenities such as restaurants, bars, and sundecks on board. Meanwhile, recently built ships follow contemporary and Indochinese styles with larger cabins, spas, pools, lounges, fitness centers, libraries, etc.

Mekong Cruise Map & Itinerary 2025
The most popular Mekong River cruise itinerary is 4–7 days. You can choose a shorter trip for 1-3 days or longer, up to 11 days, depending on the destinations and your budget.
The interesting feature of these cruises is that guests can flexibly choose a downstream or upstream itinerary to suit the departure point that overlaps with the next stop of their journey. Basically, downstream and upstream cruises are the same but in reverse, only changing some small sightseeing spots.
In addition, the itinerary also depends on the low-water or high-water season, as some attractions may not be available. Here are the classified itineraries by trip length:
- 1-3 days: Travel to each region of each country, including the Mekong Delta (Vietnam), Tonle Sap (Cambodia), and Nam Ou (Laos).
- 4-7 days: Combine 2 countries like Vietnam & Cambodia (Saigon - Phnom Penh) and longer cruises in Laos (Huay Xai - Luang Prabang) or in Cambodia (Siem Reap - Phnom Penh).
- 8-10 days: Similar to 7 days but go further between Siem Reap & Saigon or Huay Xai & Vientiane.
- Over 10 days: Only available in Laos and Thailand (Chiang Rai - Vientiane).

Local Tips for Mekong River Boat Trip
- Weather & best time to travel: Mekong cruises have a fixed schedule; they only run a few trips a month, so plan ahead a year to choose the right time. It’s better to avoid the rainy season in each country.
- Check-in and check-out time: Pay attention to the pick-up and check-in times at the pier (the cruise will send the time at least 3 days in advance for you); you should arrive early to avoid missing the embarkation.
- Book a suitable flight in/out: Book a flight that matches the check-in time. You should reach the accommodation 1 day before the embarking date or choose a flight at least 4 hours after the cruise ends to avoid being late.
- Pack the essentials: Prepare comfortable and light clothes, as you may move around a lot. The weather is usually hot and humid, so bring hats, sunscreens, and insect repellent.
- Local customs: Learn about the culture and dress appropriately, especially when visiting temples and meeting ethnic minorities.
- Safety & health insurance: You should buy travel insurance that includes medical services and safety protection throughout the trip.

Hi, I was hoping you could assist me with a booking. I am looking to do a cruise for 3nights/4days while I am in Ho Chi Minh City for work. I am looking forward to the 12th of April to start the cruise. I do want a ship that has a private balcony, perhaps some cultural entertainment at night and spa services. I like the idea of upstream, as I love tropical beaches, etc but also love the idea of the markets on the river, etc. What are your recommendations? I look forward to hearing back from you. I will be travelling on my own. I was looking at this one, however, just wondering about transit since I will be flying in and out of Ho Chi Minh City.
Hi! According to your request. We suggest you should book RV Mekong Princess Cruise Upstream 3 days: Saigon - Can Tho and then return to HCMC for departure flight by private car or shuttle bus.
Or else, you can book a Mekong Delta 3 day tour package to explore more in this area.
As you only have a few days and departure from HCMC, it isn't recommended to have a cruise tour to Cambodia as you don't have enough time. Also, there's no option for cruise with beach in itinerary from HCMC

The included excursions are enjoyable, and the cuisine is excellent, but it is the staff that truly makes the difference. They anticipate all of your wants and needs without being obtrusive. The smiles and talk are comfortable, natural, and genuine. I will absolutely sail on the Mekong Navigator again, and I would tell friends and relatives that, from a service standpoint, it is by far the nicest cruise we have ever been on! Less
A lovely journey on a gorgeous, well-appointed ship with clean, spacious, and appealing accommodations. The entire crew was really nice, willing, and attentive. Our days were well-planned, with exciting daily expeditions guided by expert guides who spoke good English. They had plenty of time to rest in their leisure areas. A truly wonderful holiday.
