Top 10 Vietnam Motorbike Tours in 2025/2026 Tailored for Aussie Travelers

FAQs

Vietnam's weather may be challenging to forecast. The South and the beaches of the nation frequently have comfortable temperatures all year round, while the North weather is different with 4 seasons. However, for adventurous travelers, the ideal months to have a motorbike tour are March and April, when the country has the most consistent circumstances.

It depends on your time available. We suggest both types of time traveling:

  • Short itinerary: The 6-8 days will fully offer chances to discover Ha Giang, Ba Be lake, Mai Chau valley, and Sa pa, which are the ideal destinations for motorbike tours. You can find more North Vietnam experiences by Amazing North Vietnam Motorcycle 8 Days and Ha Giang Loop on Motorbike 6 Days.
  • Long itinerary: Spending up to 15 days on motorbike tours means you can explore most of the adventurous destinations in Vietnam.

You can consider some motorbike tours such as Motorbike Trip from Hanoi to Saigon via Ho Chi Minh Trails 15 days and Complete Vietnam on Motorbike 12 days

You can consider the below routes if you are seeking a motorbike tour in Vietnam:

  • City tour: Pass over the most iconic destinations of the capital city, Hanoi, or enjoy the antique city of Hoi An as a local resident
  • The North route: Normally departs from Hanoi, heading to Ha Giang, Sapa, and discovering all the hidden places like local villages of northern provinces.
  • The beach route: It could start from Da Nang and head south, but the best is to make a way out of Ho Chi Minh City instead. You can stop in Hue, Nha Trang, and Hoi An to grasp the stunning landscapes.

During the peak hours of weekends and holidays, there are a large number of motorcycles. Daytime traffic bottlenecks are often typical in the city during working hours. The roadway dust and loud whistles will make you bored with Vietnam's traffic.

In Vietnam, there is a lot of investment in road traffic, but the quality seems not good enough in general. Some pathways need mild rain to be damaged or inundated. Yet, driving motorbikes smoothly is not difficult if you follow the crowd at a controlled pace and pay attention to the traffic

Everyone rides their own motorcycles. Hence, you may secure your huge belongings to the motorcycle's saddlebags or to the vehicle's trunk. There is often a rack at the back of motorcycles for securing gear.

The cost of a motorbike tour in Vietnam depends on several factors, including tour duration, group size, type of bike, accommodation quality, and whether a guide is included. On average:

  • 3 - 5 days: Around US $450 - 700 per person
  • 1 week: Typically US $600 - 1,200 per person
  • 2 weeks: Approximately US $1,300 - 2,000 per person

Group tours are generally more affordable per person, while private or custom tours may cost more.

Vietnam offers some of the most scenic and adventurous motorbike routes in Southeast Asia. Here are the top routes loved by both local and international riders:

  • Ha Giang Loop (Northern Vietnam): A legendary 3 - 5 day loop through karst mountains, ethnic villages, and dramatic mountain passes. Ideal for experienced riders seeking off-the-beaten-path adventure.
  • Hai Van Pass (Central Vietnam): A short but iconic coastal route (around 21 km) between Da Nang and Hue, known for its sweeping ocean views and smooth, winding roads.
  • Ho Chi Minh Trail (North to South): A historic route stretching over 1,000 km from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City. It offers a mix of paved and rural roads, which is perfect for those seeking a full Vietnam motorbike expedition.
  • Sapa to Lai Chau (Northwest Vietnam): A rugged, mountainous ride with breathtaking scenery, rice terraces, and tribal culture. Best for riders comfortable with sharp bends and steep climbs.
  • Da Lat to Nha Trang (South - Central Vietnam): A scenic ride from the Central Highlands down to the coast, combining pine forests, waterfalls, and beach views in a 1 - 2 day trip.

Each route offers a unique blend of landscapes, culture, and riding conditions - perfect for travelers looking to experience Vietnam beyond the usual tourist trails.

Yes, traveling by motorbike in Vietnam is generally safe, especially for those with riding experience. However, safety largely depends on preparation, awareness, and the route you choose.

  • Traffic & Road Conditions: Roads in rural and mountainous areas can be narrow, winding, or unpaved. Urban traffic, especially in cities like Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, is dense and often chaotic. Defensive driving is essential.
  • Local Traffic Rules: Traffic laws exist but may not always be strictly followed. Understanding how locals drive, especially yielding habits and roundabout etiquette, can help you stay safe.
  • Helmet & Safety Gear: Wearing a quality, full-face helmet is crucial. Also consider protective jackets, gloves, and boots. Some rental services may provide basic gear, but bringing your own ensures better safety and comfort.

Riding with a licensed local guide or on an organized tour adds an extra layer of safety, especially for first-time visitors or those unfamiliar with Vietnam’s road culture.

Yes, you must have a valid motorcycle license to legally ride a motorbike in Vietnam. Here’s what travelers need to know:

  • An International Driving Permit (IDP) with a motorcycle endorsement is required, along with your home country’s valid license. Vietnam recognizes the 1968 IDP format (not the 1949 version used in some countries).
  • For motorbikes above 50cc (most rental bikes), a motorcycle license (A1 or A2 class) is mandatory. Riding without a valid license may lead to fines, and insurance claims may be invalidated in case of accidents.

For travelers unsure about licensing, joining a guided motorbike tour with a licensed driver is a safe and legal alternative.

Packing smart ensures comfort, safety, and a smoother journey. Here's a comprehensive list based on road conditions and climate in Vietnam:

  • Riding Gear: Helmet, jacket, gloves, protective pants, boots.
  • Clothing: Lightweight clothes, rain gear, and layers for cold nights.
  • Essentials: Sunscreen, first-aid kit, toiletries, and water bottle.
  • Extras: Snacks, small backpack for personal items.

We are female travelers looking for authentic experiences like these motorbike tours. But we heard that motorbike adventurers in Vietnam often go through staggering hills or dangerous roads. Do you have any other tours with less challenging routes?

I'm from Singapore and looking for a motorbike tour for about 10 - 12 days. However, I see that transportation in Vietnam is very different from my country. Must I need to have my Vietnamese driver's license if I want to travel on your tour?

Halo! I'm planning for having 6-8 days for a motorbike tour in North Vietnam. Is there any group tour with an experienced tour guide? If I do self-driving, is there any request for a license?
