Morning
For early risers, the daily yoga class on the terrace deck, set against the stunning Mekong backdrop, offers a refreshing way to begin the day.
The ship departs early, allowing you to enjoy breakfast while observing the quiet morning rhythms of nature along the river.
Our morning sojourn leads us to two traditional adjacent villages, where Lao Loum and Khmu communities have lived side by side for generations, each preserving its own traditions in quiet harmony. Most villagers are farmers, cultivating seasonal crops and tending small gardens, while in Ban Baw, a handful of women keep alive the intricate art of cotton and silk weaving.
During our visit, you can witness a demonstration of this enduring craft, observing weavers as they work on traditional handlooms using labor-intensive methods that have remained unchanged through the ages. The village also has a small temple tending to the community’s spiritual life, where those who wish can join the resident monks for a short private meditation session.
Afternoon
As we sail into the mid-afternoon, our expert guide hosts an informative talk on the diverse ethnic groups of Laos along the Mekong River.
Soon after, another striking riverside scene unfolds as we arrive at a unique village where three ethnic communities: Hmong, Lao Loum, and Khamu live side by side. Each group carries its own history, traditions, family structures, and architectural styles.
Let's walk through the village to a family home where members of each ethnic group explain their daily lives, bringing the lecture from the previous day vividly to life.
Back onboard, as the afternoon turns to evening, gather at the bar to enjoy light snacks and a preview of the next day’s program.
Evening
Before dinner, a traditional dance performance takes place on the terrace deck, adding a cultural highlight to the evening.
After dinner, you’re welcome to join us in the lounge for a cosy film screening of “Chiang”, the Laotian word for “elephant.” Filmed in this very region in 1927 by the same visionary who later produced the first King Kong movie, the film sets a fitting tone for the adventures ahead.
