The Patuxai was built during a turbulent period in Laotian history. Built when Laos was a constitutional monarchy, it was originally known as simply the "Anousavali" ("Monument"). It was dedicated in memory of the Laotian soldiers who died during World War II and the independence war from France in 1949.
When we had seen all these things Bernard was already too tired so we went to the coffee shop as I had mentioned then to lunch and back to the hotel as we wanted to relax. Bernard did his leg exercises in the water and managed to get out with my help only but yesterday he had to be rescued!
