History

Wat Pa Luong Ta Bua is truly a sanctuary for wild animals since it was built in 1994. The story began when local residents brought an injured bird to the temple to have monks taken care for. The bird’s shouting accidentally attracted other flocks of birds and even an injured wild boar. When that wild boar was allowed to return to the forest, it led other 10 boars back to the temple to inhabit here. Residents living around started to bring other animals to the temple they didn’t want to raise from buffalo, bull, horse, to gibbon. All of them was looked after at a spacious area inside the temple. Monks took the first two tigers from villagers after tigers had been found living without the care of their parents. After that, other people continued to bring more tigers here. Finally, the name “Tiger Temple” was born as a place people and tigers live in harmony with each other.
