Morning
Wake to the gentle sway of the river as the RV Mekong Navigator arrives at Sa Dec, a riverside town rich in literary and colonial legacy. Board a sampan to glide through narrow canals lined with flowering trees and traditional homes. Upon arrival in town, visit the heritage home of Mr. Huynh Thuy Le, whose story inspired the famous French novel The Lover by Marguerite Duras.
Wander through Kien An Cung Temple, an ornate Chinese pagoda built to honor the Huynh family, and feel the echoes of Sa Dec’s multicultural history. End your visit at the vibrant Sa Dec Market, where the morning bustle fills the air with the scents of lemongrass, dried shrimp, and tropical herbs. It's a sensory mosaic of Mekong Delta life, brimming with colors, chatter, and the daily trade of fresh produce, meats, and fish.
Afternoon
Sailing onward to Cai Be, arrive at a quieter branch of the Mekong and step aboard a small rowboat piloted by a local, gently paddling through tranquil canals framed by nipa palms and fruit orchards. Reach a charming riverside cottage workshop, where families craft rice paper, coconut candy, and rice wine using age-old techniques. Watch how popped rice sizzles and spins in large clay pans, and sample the sweet treats fresh from the hearth.
There’s also time to browse handcrafted goods and paintings, often made on-site—a chance to take home a piece of Mekong artistry.
Evening
Return to the Navigator as the ship begins its final leg toward My Tho. As sunset hues bathe the river, gather on the Sun Deck for a Farewell Reception with the crew—share laughter, toasts, and gratitude with your fellow travelers. Then, enjoy your final Farewell Dinner in Le Marché Dining Room, a culinary tribute to your journey through two vibrant countries.
