Ban Mae Klang Luang is a village inhabited ethnic group, known as Pakakayor or Karen, who migrated from Burma some centuries ago. Located Km.26 on the 3rd basin level of Doi Inthanon, Ban Luang subdistrict, Chom Thong district, Chiang Mai province, the village is a peaceful place with relaxing natural environments around. It used to be a place for opium planting, but later, the villagers switched to creative agriculture instead, due to the kindness of King Bhumibol. Now Ban Mae Klang Luang turns to be a stunning place with flawless nature, which attracts a lot of tourists coming to visit.

  • Trekking & bird watching

You can reach the village by driving a car, but a lot of tourists choose to trek to this village. Trekking in Ban Mae Klang Luang is a really interesting activity. You can start at Km.30 on the road, walking some ways down to Pha Dok Seaw Waterfalls. The waterfall has ten different cascades and the 7th is the most beautiful. Besides, you will be able to see orange, flower, and coffee plantations on the trekking route. You may see some birds sometimes, so bring a spyglass or a pair of binoculars to watch them from a long distance. It is highly recommended to hire a local tour guide from the village to make sure you can visit most of the beautiful places here and avoid being lost.

From September to October which is the rainy season in Ban Mae Klang Luang, visitors can enjoy the most beautiful scenery of the rice terraces. The whole Ban Mae Klang Luang is magnificently covered by a thin layer of fog and verdant rice terraces in descending order.

From October to November is also a great time to travel to Ban Mae Klang Luang, it is the time when the entire area is brightened by golden ears of rice.

2. How to get to Ban Mae Klang Luang

From Chiang Mai center, take a bus from Chiang Mai Bus Station to Chom Thong. The first bus leaves around 6 am and buses run regularly throughout the day. The bus will stop at the market just next to Wat Phra That Si Chom Thong Temple. From there, you can take a taxi to Mae Ban Klang Luang.

Hi, Could you advise on how do I go about booking a home stay in the Mae Klang Luang village? Do I need to contact the home owner directly? I could not find any platform that would help with such accommodation booking. Thanks.
