Pha Kuang Cave

Nong Khiaw is a new famous destination in Laos with untouched beauty. For tourists who interested in discovery activities, discovering Pha Kuang Cave in Nong Khiaw is definitely a real adventure.

Pha Kuang Cave is about 3km away from Nong Khiaw, walking along the main road in the town then you can reach this cave. In the past, this area is used for the army to hide during Indochina war with US in 1960s and you can see consequences of the war available until today.

Pha Kuang Cave is 300 m in length, you must to squeeze in some sections in order to moving on the cave. If you want to visit the cave without a local guide, you have to pay US $1.20 for the ticket. Inside Pha Kuang Cave is covered by the dark so you should hire a torch in some restaurants near the entrance before visiting it.

Pha Kuang Cave is only suitable for people who do not mind getting dirty and want to join in an adventure. In the main room, there is a small shrine with some Buddha statues. Some people only stopped at visiting this main room but there are much more interesting experiences in Pha Kuang Cave. To visit all rooms in this cave you have to go across a small hole with rope and narrow gaps on the cave. The deeper you go the thinner air make you to breath heavily. Notice that you must stop going when you see the warning sign for safety.

From Nong Khiaw, tourists can walk on food or hire a bicycle to go Pha Kuang Cave, it will take you about 30 minutes to go there. Make sure that you check the news before traveling because sometimes this area is closed for a short time due to landslide.
