Phan Thiet
Phan Thiet was originally ruled by Champa ancient kingdom. Afterwards, Dai Viet kingdom took over and established administration when Binh Thuan province was established in 1910. During 1773 to 1801, Phan Thiet was the land where the battles between Nguyen Dynasty and Tay Son Dynasty occurred. It was not until the late 19th centuries, when Phan Thiet was finally recognized as an official part of Binh Thuan province.
During the French colonial time, Phan Thiet was separated into 2 different areas, which are Ca Ty river’s estuary surrounding wards, and the coastlines of Binh Hung, Lac Dao, Duc Thang, and Hung Long.
In 1999, Vietnamese government officially listed Phan Thiet city as Binh Thuan’s provincial city.

Culture in Phan Thiet is originated from Cham culture. However, customs of people culture are various, which results in variety of national heritages like communal houses in Duc Thang, Thuy Tu, and Duc Nghia; or the special worshipping custom of the marine God. Folk singings such as Bo, Cai Luong, Ho Ba Trao are some outstanding cultural features of the people.
Fishery is the oldest industry of local people in Phan Thiet. The citizen rely on fishing to earn living. The locals are alson well-known for some other specialties such as dragon fruit farming, manufacturing fish sauce, etc. Fishing villages and farms are scattered around Phan Thiet city, while tourist activities and night life are offered mostly in Mui Ne. Hence, travelers may prefer staying the nights in Mui Ne resort for better accommodation.
Po Shanu Cham Towers
When coming to Phan Thiet city, travelers might be interested in visiting Po Shanu Cham Towers. The holy place welcome prayers not only from Cham people, but also local fishermen, who shall go here to pray for a safe fishing tour on the ocean daily.

Phan Thiet weather is sunny, windy, and less stormy than other regions in the middle area of Vietnam. It is cooler during December to February, which temperature often ranges from 26 to 27 degree of Celsius. However, Western tourists usually come to Phan Thiet during April – May, when it is hottest reaching 29 degree of Celsius.
