White Elephant Pagoda

White Elephant Pagoda, or Wat Tahm-rai-saw, is a must-see attraction in Battambang, especially during the cultural and religious events such as the Khmer New Year Festival.

Considered one of the significant sightseeing places in Battambang, White Elephant Pagoda is such a huge temple with life-size sculptures of white elephants. One of them carries the portrait of a prince as depicted in the story of Lord Buddha. White Elephant Pagoda (Wat Tahm-rai-saw) is situated between Road 2 and Road 3 in the city center area of Battambang. The temple was built in the mid-nineteenth century and renovated many times.

The main eastern gate flanked by near-life sized sculptures of white elephants. One of them carries a young prince worshiped by several women, a scene from Buddha's early life before he became enlightened. Several other statues like this are along the eastern side of the chapel.

White Elephant Pagoda is not only a famous architectural landmark but also a site for ecultural and religious events. The pagoda is a perfect place to hold numerous traditional events, particularly the Khmer New Year festival.
