Dark and Bright Cave

Dark and Bright Cave lies on the border of Halong Bay, Bai Tu Long Bay, and Lan Ha Bay. It is considered to be one of the best choices of caves in Halong Bay for visiting.

  • Location: near Cat Ba National Park, in the middle of the intersection area of Halong Bay and Lan Ha Bay.
  • Width of 4m and length around 70m.
  • Combine 2 different wet caves, which can be visited only by kayak or rowing boat.

Outstanding view inside the cave

The wonderful entrance to the cave

Considered Sung Sot Cave but hidden half-body underwater, Dark & Bright Cave (Sang Toi Cave) attracts tourists thanks to its very primitive characteristics.

The cave is called Dark & Bright (or Dark and Light) because it is a system comprised of two different caverns:

  • The Dark Cave is 70m long and has very little natural light, so bring a flashlight if you could!
  • The Bight Cave, on the other hand, is much shorter and has tons of natural light pouring through gaps and cracks in the rock, making it feel as if Mother Nature herself sculpted it.

This through-the-mountain cave is located on the water. Therefore, to explore it, instead of climbing tons of stairs like the others, kayaking, or riding a rowboat are the only options for tourists to explore the cave's true beauty.

What is special about Dark & Bright Cave?

Padding through this place is an adventure itself due to very little natural light and no artificial light to support mass travel like in other caves. Passing through the cave, there is a sea valley surrounded by magnificent mountains that will undoubtedly impress you. Floating your kayak on the water, breathing in the fresh air, admiring the beautiful scenery around, and feeling the peace between the sea, sky, and mountains will be an amazing feeling that you would never forget.

The natural Beauty of the cave

The natural beauty of the cave

The landscape here is perfect for getting lost in nature, admiring the lush flora, and breathing in the fresh air. On the cave's cliffs, ancient fossil evidence of fresh-water snails can still be found, showing that the cave was inhabited thousands of years ago. Monkeys, shaded Benjamin fig trees, and a variety of orchid blossoms may also be seen here.

The water in this cave is rich in marine life with shrimp, fish, crab, and cuttlefish in abundance. After wandering around to have the outside look, you can feel the art of natural stalagmites on the cave’s dome and wall with your own palm when weaving into the grotto.
