This one day in Hoi An itinerary will guide you to the must-do experiences in this enchanting old port town – from visiting must-see places in Hoian ancient town to taste the yummy food in the evening. There will be some hour’s free time for you to explore the city on your own.

 

Half-day discover the main sight of the town in the morning

To experience this city in one day, you had better start the tour before or at 8:00 to avoid the crowd. Hoian is a nice and small town, so you can walk on the city tour and explore it at a slow pace. Before the tour, you need to buy the entrance ticket which allows you to visit small museums, merchant houses, temples, and pagodas around town. We recommend you to visit the Japanese Covered Bridge, Phuc Kien Assembly Halls, Hoian ancient houses, and the local fish market.

Japanese Covered Bridge is located in the Center of Hoian Ancient Town, connecting Tran Phu and Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street. The bridge was built in the 1590s by Japanese Businessmen living. It is a typical example of Japanese architecture and becomes not only a tourist symbol of the old town but also the soul of the land and people. Inside the bridge lies a temple of the northern God Tran Vo Bac De, who is considered the God of Weather. People believe that this God controls all kinds of weather changes and natural calamities, so they come here for worshipping, and wish for the best of luck.

Phuc Kien Assembly Halls

Phuc Kien Assembly Hall is one of the typical architectural works thanks to its unique architecture. Situated in No.46 Tran Phu Street, the Hall is one of 5 official assembly halls. It has been famous for the magnificent beauty, splendor, and majesty in a large space with the unique architecture of Chinese architectural style and its sacredness. Nowadays, the hall is the place where many events and activities are held to celebrate Chinese festivals.

Hoian ancient houses

There are a handful of ancient houses. These houses reflect the architectural styles of major trading partners of Vietnam including China, Japan, France. Duc An house, Tan Ky house, and Phung Hung house are the three most famous houses with beautiful decoration. Duc An house has been inhabited by the same family for over 400 years, it present real history about Vietnam during anti-French and Communist time. Tan Ky House is a two-story shophouse and features beautiful carving and inlay work while Phung Hung house is the largest house among the three ones.

After visiting these above places, you can stop at some places for shopping, enjoying the local food and drinks. The tour ends around 12:00 and you can explore Hoian by yourself. Do not forget to check with the tour guide about what to do, where to eat during your free time.

You should not skip food tours as Hoi An is a food paradise. You now get on the motorbike to join the food tour and explore the city at night. Sitting on the back of the motorbike, and you will be taken to the most popular street stalls and hidden alleyways in the city to see how real Vietnamese people live, work and eat

The first stop is the famous White Rose Dumplings Restaurant where you will try the unique dumplings. Then, you travel through the small alley and stop at a local business house where you will be able to see real Vietnamese life, talk with local people and take pictures of them. There, you can try Hoian Beef Noodles Soups (Bun Bo) – a popular dish of Hoian people.

Continue the trip to Tra Que Vegetable village where you can see local people work on the farm, enjoy a cup of Vietnamese coffee. Then head to Banh My Madam Queen to taste one of the best sandwiches in Vietnam.  Also, there is a chance for you to try Banh Khot - a round pancake made with rice flour, turmeric, coconut milk, quail egg, and vegetables at a famous street vendor near Hoai square. Challenge yourselves with Balut - One of the Top 10 weird foods in the world.

The last stop before the tour ends is a local restaurant by the river to enjoy a special dinner, drink, and eat like local people. Mot-Hai-Ba-Dzo, which is “Nhau” style with a cold beer and delicious food. The tour ends at 19:00 at your hotel, and you have free time to explore the city at night.
