Ban Sop Houn

Ban Sop Houn is on the top of Phadeng mountain in Laos. With a view above the cloud, tourists can have chance to admire the overview of Nong Khiaw scenery.

Ban Sop Houn is a small and peaceful village located on Phadeng mountain, Nong Khiaw province, Laos. In the main road of Nong Khiaw, tourists can see a trail to Ban Sop Houn which has direct sign “Mountain Viewpoint”. Following this trail, you can reach Ban Sop Houn and Nong Khiaw Viewpoint and notice that the entrance fee is about $2.50 USD per person. Many foreign tourists are interested in hiking a long distance to Ban Sop Houn. However, you should go there in the early morning to avoid the intense sunshine and remember to watch the weather forecast before going to make sure that it is not raining.

Tourists can find a big missile on display at the ticket check place before climbing to Ban Sop Houn. Laos was heavily bombed by US during 1960s and the consequences are still remain today. You have to follow the trail, do not get off the path because there is a warming of unexploded bombs still in this area.

It is a small adventure to many people, you need to hike about 1.5 hours through fields and forest to reach Ban Sop Houn. You can see the Nong Khiaw Viewpoint about 50 meters after the Temple of Ban Sop Houn. From there, you have the good view above the cloud to admire the scenery surrounding Phadeng mountain as well as Nong Khiaw with rivers and mountains. There is a hut on the top for tourist having a place to rest and relax after a long time climbing.

From Luang Prabang, tourists can catch a mini bus or taxi to the north to reach Nong Khiaw. If you do not have enough confident to do everything by yourself in a new country, you can buy a Laos tour to have a clear schedule and tour guide.
