FAQs
Definitely yes. The Mekong River is among the world's best enchanting river cruise destinations. Why is it worth it?
- Scenic riverscape: Cruising is the most fascinating way to get closer to the tranquil waters, floating villages, and lush mangroves.
- Relaxation & comfort: Mekong River ships offer well-appointed cabins, cozy lounges, and spacious decks where you can enjoy your comfort in mind and body.
- Off-the-beaten-path route: From 2 to 11 days, the cruise itinerary will let you admire all the hidden gems of the mighty Mekong, including local workshops, floating markets, fruit orchards, temples & pagodas, etc.
- Cultural immersion: Let's take a chance to engage in the traditional life on waterways, unique cultures from diverse countries, and genuine people.
Normally, the river cruise in Mekong lasts from 2 days to 11 days.
- 2 - 3 days: On a budget of US $194 - $908, you can visit 2 - 3 attractions in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam.
- 4 - 8 days: From US $675 to $4560, the cruise takes you to visit 4 - 8 attractions between Vietnam (Saigon/ Can Tho) and Cambodia (Siem Reap/ Phnom Penh).
- 9 - 11 days: Spending US $1618 - $4572, you can explore the upper Mekong, between Laos (Vientiane/ Luang Prabang) and Thailand (Chiang Khong/ Chiang Rai).
The best month to take a Mekong River cruise is from November to April next year, an ideal time during the dry season. There are lower chances of rain and cooler temperatures. So that you can enjoy offboard activities and beautiful sightseeing.
On average, the price of a cruise trip on the Mekong River ranges between US $194 and US $4,500 per passenger, specifically:
- 1 - 2 nights: US $194 - $908/pax
- 3 - 6 nights: US $675 - $4,560/pax
- 7 - 9 nights: US $1,618 - $4,572/pax
- Over 9 nights: From US $2,651/pax

The cruise starting points depend on the countries you want to discover. You can follow the list beyond to know where you will start your Mekong River journey.
- Vietnam: Can Tho, Ho Chi Minh City
- Cambodia: Phnom Penh, Siem Reap
- Laos: Luang Prabang, Huay Xai
Both low water (mid-Nov to end-Aug) and high water (end-Aug to mid-Nov) have similar onshore excursions but the sequence may differ.
The main distinction is that the water levels only influence the itinerary in Cambodia (between Siem Reap and Phnom Penh), while the Vietnam itinerary is unchanged.
In particular, Mekong River cruises can make a lake crossing in the high-water season and visit many attractions in Tonle Sap. Ships can also dock directly at the Siem Reap pier. During low water season, the dock will be located at Kampong Cham.
Note: The exact dates of the high and low seasons are determined by rainfall and water levels each year. Mekong cruise lines will adjust their schedules on short notice.
The dresscode for Mekong River cruise is lightweight and smart casual clothes. To be more specific, you should take notice of these followings:
- Choose summer and autumn outfits due to the tropical climate in Mekong
- Dress "more than casual," such as a collared shirt for men and a dressy top for women, on some special nights
- Wear comfortable shoes or sandals since you have to walk on uneven surfaces and cobblestones during offshore excursions
For U.S. travelers seeking comfort, cultural depth, and hassle-free service, these five Mekong River cruises consistently rank among the most recommended:
- Heritage Line Jayavarman – From US$ 1229 (4–8 days): Boutique colonial-style ship with immersive cultural excursions.
- Victoria Mekong Cruise – From US$ 1,092 (5–8 days): Modern mid-range cruise with eco-friendly design and local experiences.
- Aqua Mekong Cruise – From US$ 3,192 (4–8 days): Ultra-luxury cruise with all-inclusive services, fine dining, and expert-led tours.
- Mekong Princess Cruise – From US$ 825 (3–8 days): Intimate 14-suite vessel offering personalized service and elegance.
- Mekong Eyes Classic – From US$ 206 (2–3 days): Affordable, charming wooden boat perfect for a quick Mekong Delta escape.

Both upstream and downstream Mekong River cruises offer unforgettable cultural experiences, but the direction you choose can affect your overall pace:
Upstream cruises (from Vietnam to Cambodia or Laos) tend to be more leisurely and often start in Saigon, which is a convenient international gateway for U.S. travelers. Cruises end in Phnom Penh or Siem Reap, making it easy to extend your trip to visit Angkor Wat.
Downstream cruises (from Cambodia or Laos to Vietnam) are slightly faster-paced with a start in Siem Reap or Luang Prabang. These cruises end in bustling Ho Chi Minh City, ideal for a more connected city for your return flight.
Either route delivers the same incredible scenery and immersive local experiences—you just choose how you want to begin or end your journey.
Note: Consider flight availability when choosing your cruise direction. Many U.S. travelers find it easier to fly into Vietnam and out of Cambodia, or vice versa, depending on their airline.
Yes, many Mekong River cruise packages can be customized with pre- and post-cruise tours to enhance your travel experience.
Whether you'd like to explore Ho Chi Minh City, Siem Reap, Luang Prabang, or other destinations before or after your cruise, most cruise operators and travel agencies offer flexible add-on tour options. These may include city tours, cultural excursions, food experiences, or even beach holidays in Vietnam or Thailand.
Tip: It's best to plan your custom tours when booking your cruise to secure availability, especially during peak seasons. Please contact us for a seamless itinerary tailored to your interests, timeframe, and budget.

Hi I am interested in booking a HCMC to SR river cruise for 3 people (two cabins). one cabin twin share, one cabin single supplement. We would like to travel departing January 15 2025 or dates as soon after that as possible. Can you please reply with information and prices, thank you
Our travel consultant is checking available option and send you via email.
Hi, I was hoping you could assist me with a booking. I am looking to do a cruise for 3nights/4days while I am in Ho Chi Minh City for work. I am looking forward to the 12th of April to start the cruise. I do want a ship that has a private balcony, perhaps some cultural entertainment at night and spa services. I like the idea of upstream, as I love tropical beaches, etc but also love the idea of the markets on the river, etc. What are your recommendations? I look forward to hearing back from you. I will be travelling on my own. I was looking at this one, however, just wondering about transit since I will be flying in and out of Ho Chi Minh City.
Hi! According to your request. We suggest you should book RV Mekong Princess Cruise Upstream 3 days: Saigon - Can Tho and then return to HCMC for departure flight by private car or shuttle bus.
Or else, you can book a Mekong Delta 3 day tour package to explore more in this area.
As you only have a few days and departure from HCMC, it isn't recommended to have a cruise tour to Cambodia as you don't have enough time. Also, there's no option for cruise with beach in itinerary from HCMC

We loved the Mekong Eye Explorer Cruise so much.
Chook and Tuyen were amazing!
First and foremost, we were alone on the trip, which was ideal. The boat was fantastic, and everyone was really kind.
The guide is really fascinating.
From beginning to end, everything was flawless.
The only thing is that you need to know how many buses it will take to get to the boat.
My Uyen was incredibly helpful in arranging my 4-day cruise from Ho Chi Minh City to Phnom Penh. Even though I was in the US, she made the whole booking process smooth and stress-free, answering every question along the way.
Grateful for her support!

We had a lovely time on the Toum Tiou cruising between Saigon and Siem Reap. The boat is smaller and more traditional, which gives it a very personal and authentic feel. The crew was incredibly friendly and always went the extra mile to make us comfortable.
