Vietnam Women Museum

Vietnam Women Museum is a museum which research and preserve the tangible and intangible values of Vietnamese women from traditional to modern. This museum provides a lot of useful information about the image of women in Vietnamese cultural such as: the beauty of soul, body and costumes in each period.

Vietnam Women Museum is always one of the most attractive tourist place in Hanoi which voted by TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel website. Vietnam Women Museum has a collection with more than 25.000 items related to Vietnam women to serve thousands visitors every year. In 2010, Vietnam Women Museum reopened with three permanent exhibitions:

  • Women in Family (3 parts): Marriage, The birth and Family life.
  • Women in History (7 parts): Historic Personages, period: 1930 – 1954, period: 1954 – 1975 in Southern Vietnam and Northern Vietnam, Reunification, Heroic Mothers of Vietnam, Destiny of today’s women.
  • Women’s Fashion (3 parts): Fashion and motif art, Ornaments and Lacquered teeth and betel.

Vietnam Women Museum was set up in 1987 by Vietnam Women’s Union and opened to the public in 1995. From 2006 to 2010, the museum closed to upgrade facilities and reopened at the end of 2010. Vietnam Women Museum returned with a completely new look. The exhibition became more scientifically and attractive by the support of French experts. Besides that, the museum has changed from a cultural and historical museum to a gender museum, which provides information about traditional cultural, social issues and women’s life. Going to Vietnam Women Museum, visitors can gain a lot of knowledge by seeing thousands pictures, documents, artefacts, etc.

Beside the regular exhibit, Vietnam Women Museum also organized many special exhibitions targeting many different groups: Women and Innovation (1st October, 2013), Flower and Life (2nd September, 2013), Stories of Markets (8th March, 2014).

From Ly Thai To Street next to Hoan Kiem Lake you can walking from there to Ly Thuong Kiet Street because the distance is not too long for walking on foot.  Another convenient way is buy a motorbike city tour from an agent to have transport and a guide going with you.
