For visitors to Cambodia, beside with visiting many temples of the ancient kingdom, discovering the architecture of the city, experiencing local life in floating village, enjoy a beach break in Sihanoukville – Cambodia's premier beach town – is a paradisiacal escape which sure to make you feel far away.

Sihanouk Ville

Sihanouk Ville

The main reason to visit Sihanoukville is the beaches. Constructed as a port city in the late 1950s, nowadays, Sihanoukville is as much a beach town as it is a port town. Still, the pace of life in Sihanoukville is very relaxed. Several lovely beaches of white sand and crystal clear water, most easily accessible from town, each separated as much by character as the rocky headlands between. Many vacation activities around town are related to the beaches: swimming and sunbathing, trips to the islands, scuba diving, fishing, and snorkeling… A few beaches are rocky, nice to look at but not for swimming. Considering the moderate number of visitors to Sihanoukville, the town offers a surprising number and variety of restaurants and bars. And fresh from-the-ocean seafood, especially crabs, prawns and fishes, has always been one of the town's biggest draws.

Boat trips are also available to many of the nearby deserted islands. There are many islands off the Cambodian coast that have lots of coral and fish. Scuba diving and snorkeling is possible around most of the islands, with the best snorkeling being at the further islands for visibility, corals and fish. All the dive boats in Cambodia leave from the Sihanoukville port area. The main scuba diving area is at Koh Rong Samloem Island and Koh Tang Island. There are also overnight trips to the Koh Rong Samloem island to not only dive, but also to experience the traditional way of life in a Khmer fishing village. A clean and unspoiled beach can be found a couple of hours away on the island Koh Rong Saloem. Daily ferries can take you there in a one-day trip including snorkeling, fishing…

Moreover, east of Sihanoukville are two true Cambodian gems: Kampot and Kep. Many come to escape the hustle and bustle of Phnom Penh or rest up after visiting the Angkor Wat temples in Siem Reap or the seashore of Sihanoukville. Kep - a quiet version of Sihanoukville - offers visitors a glimpse of rural Cambodia with its green rice paddies, the forested hills and the expansive views of Kep Bay. Visitors can relax and play in the water at the municipal beach. A visit to Rabbit Island is the perfect choice for a beach chill out experience. Further afield about 30km distance is Kampot, an ancient sea port town. Maybe, you would like to rent a motorbike to ride there. This southern region of Cambodia is filled with pepper farms where you can learn about the history of the spice, see how it is grown, and pick up what is considered some of the finest pepper in the world.

Overall, Sihanoukville is a prefect tropical getaway. Considered by many as Southeast Asia’s top beach resort, Sihanoukville attracts travelers from all over the world, especially those who are looking for a new beach destination with a lovely, unspoiled coastline that has not yet become overdeveloped.
