Vietnam Makes Plans to Welcome Two New Casinos in Ba Na Hills and Hon Tre Island

Vietnam’s Ministry of Finance is proposing to license and build two new casinos for foreigners only in Ba Na Hills, Da Nang City, and Hon Tre Island, Khanh Hoa Province.

New Casino Proposals in Vietnam

Since early 2022, the Ministry of Finance has forwarded a report to the Government on the management of casino activities in Vietnam. It is said that the prospective casinos would be built at the Sun World Ba Na Hills and the entertainment and resort complex on Hon Tre Island. Both locations are assessed as potential tourism projects with major investment funds and attractive destinations for a large number of inbound tourists. 

A new casino proposal will be processed in Ba Na Hills

Currently, Da Nang City has no large-scale casino. Meanwhile, Khanh Hoa Province has received government approval for the investment in the casino resort and entertainment complex in KN Paradise, Cam Ranh since 2019 (ongoing construction).

However, the Ministry of Finance refused to back the casino proposal in some other localities, such as Binh Thuan Province, due to its low tourism potential and lack of port and airport infrastructure. 

The Ministry also proposed the extension of a pilot program that welcomes Vietnamese people to play at Phu Quoc Casino until 2024.

There are 8 active casinos and 9 projects in Vietnam, including 6 small-scale projects (Do Son - Hai Phong; Loi Lai - Quang Ninh, Hoang Gia - Quang Ninh, Hong Van Hotel - Quang Ninh; International Hotel - Lao Cai, Silver Shores - Da Nang) and 3 large-scale casinos are Ho Tram (Ba Ria - Vung Tau); Hoi An (Quang Nam) and Phu Quoc (Kien Giang).

In addition, Vietnam has two projects that have been approved for investment in Thua Thien Hue and Khanh Hoa, which are under construction. The casino in Van Don (Quang Ninh) is still in the process of applying for approval of the investment policy and is expected to bid for investor selection.
